Sabine Parish man killed in traffic wreck TOLEDO TOWN A Many man died Thursday following a threevehicle wreck on La. Highway 6 about four miles east of the TexasLouisiana state line in Sabine Parish, State Police Troop said. The victim, Paul Sparish, 63, of Many, was a passenger in a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by his wife, Nina Sparish, 60, who was moderately injured in the accident. Sparish died at the scene. troopers said.

The crash happened when Sandra K. Whaley, who was west bound on La. 6 in a 1992 Chrysler did not realize the Sparish vehi cle had stopped to make a left turn into a private drive, troopers said. Whaley, 49, of Hemphill, Texas, attempted to avoid the collision by swerving to the right. The front of her Chrysler struck the right rear of Sparish's Cutlass, The impact forced the Cutlass into the eastbound lane where a 1998 Ford dump truck, driven by Don Springer, 56, of Converse, crashed into the right passenger door, troopers said.

Springer was treated at Sabine Medical Center for moderate injuries. Whaley was taken to a medical center in Hemphill, Texas, with moderate injuries. She was cited with careless operation of a motor vehicle. All persons involved in the crash were wearing seat belts. Man indicted in infant-killing case Rapides Parish grand jury Thursday indicted Quanton Deone Shaw in connection with the death of his infant daughter, a victim of shaken baby syndrome.

Shaw, 23, of Glenmora is charged with first-degree murder. He is accused of killing his 3- month-old daughter, Destiny, in January. The child was diagnosed as dying from shaken baby syndrome. The infant was hospitalized Jan. 20 for retinal hemorrhaging and died the next day.

An indictment is a criminal charge issued by a grand jury and not an indication of guilt or innocence. Police arrest two in separate knifings Alexandria police made two arrests following separate knifings in the city Thursday. Joel Morrison, 26, of Oakland, and Connelia Annsennier, 40, of Alexandria, were each booked with one count of aggravated battery in connection with the incidents, police said Thursday night. Morrison is accused of cutting a 21- year-old female in 1 the 500 block of 16th Street around 1:50 p.m. after the female allegedly refused to comply with his advances, police said.

Officers said the woman defended herself by pulling out a knife of her own and cutting Morrison's lip. Morrison was brought to Huey P. Long Hospital where he was given three stitches. In the second incident, police said Ms. Annsennier allegedly threw her 53-year-old female victim on the ground in front of the victim's 14th St.

residence, cutting the left side of her face from ear to mouth. The dispute apparently ignited because of a parked car in front of the woman's driveway. The victim was treated at Huey P. Long Hospital, Pineville, but later brought to Shreveport Medical Center for treatment, authorities said.
